They were quiet on the drive home, full of toffee and popcorn and the largest snow cone Amos had ever seen. On the inside, though, his mind was racing. He prodded at the discomfort of the way Evelyn had treated him like he was exploring a toothache with his tongue. What had that been about? The distance she kept putting between them and her hesitancy when it came to touching him. Had he offended her somehow? Done something wrong without realising and made her upset? She opened her own door before he could get to it, but he walked her up to her front porch anyway.

"Do you want to come inside?" Evelyn said, and though part of him—certain parts of him—immediately perked up at the idea of a repeat of the other night, at the suggestion he might have another chance to bring her to orgasm inside those leggings, he stomped down on the desire with the force of a much stronger man.

"Sure," Amos said, and he could see that his assent had taken her by surprise. Her fingers shook as she fit the key into the lock, and he wondered what it was that was making her nervous. He waved to the neighbour who was outside watering his garden and followed Evelyn inside.

The moment the door was closed behind them, he had her backed up against it. "What the hell was that about?"

"Tonight. Calling me mate in front of your friends, refusing to hold my hand. You punched me in the shoulder when I tried to kiss you." He didn't realise how much her rejection had hurt until he said the words out loud.

She didn't reply for a long moment, and all he could focus on were her dilating pupils and the way her chest rapidly rose and fell.

"You were acting like we were friends, Evelyn," Amos said eventually.

"We are friends," she protested.

"Evelyn, I took your virginity when I pushed my cock inside you. I've kissed that smart mouth until you couldn't breathe, and I've made you come up against this door. I went on my first date with you. What part of that sounds like friends to you?"
